Visiting Hurst Professor Mark Slouka reads from his nonfiction

The author of six books of fiction and non-fiction, Mark Slouka’s work has been translated into sixteen languages. His stories and essays have been included in Best American Short StoriesBest American Essays, and the PEN/O.Henry Prize Stories. In 2008, he was a finalist for the British Book Award for his novel The Visible World, and his 2011 collection of essays, Essays from the Nick of Time, received the PEN/Diamonstein-Speilvogel Award for the Art of the Essay. A contributing editor to Harpers Magazine since 2001, his work has appeared in numerous publications, including Ploughshares, The Paris Review, Agni, Granta and The New Yorker.com.  A Guggenheim and NEA fellowship recipient, he has taught literature and writing at Harvard, Columbia, and University of Chicago, where he served as Chair of Creative Writing.  His memoir, Labyrinth of the Heart will be out in the fall of 2016, and his blog, Notes From The Shack: On Nature, Culture, Politics and Technology, can be found on markslouka.com.
